The lighthouse or the MENARA in Arabic, it is the three-storey building, it was decorated with two imperial crowns at the top, its construction on the African shore of the Strait of Gibraltar was decided after the sinking in 1860, off Tangier , of the training frigate Dona Isabel, which saw 250 young cadets of the Brazilian Navy perish.
The Cap Spartel lighthouse is located at the cape of the same name, which is about 14 kilometers west of Tangier. This site marks the place where the Mediterranean and the Atlantic meet their waters. It is one of the largest lighthouses in Africa, which marks the southern entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar from the Atlantic side.
So we cannot talk about the history of Morocco or Tangier in particular without mentioning this marvelous monument, which prompted RIAD SULTANA to give this name to one of its rooms.
